Quality and format notes
AVI is the 1990s container still sitting in camera archives and old downloads. Its audio is often MP3 or PCM already; this page decodes it and produces a clean, universally playable MP3.
Old AVI files sometimes have broken indexes, and files that cannot seek may not decode. Test one file before batch converting an archive.
Frequently asked questions
The AVI already contains MP3 audio — why convert?
The result is a standalone, consistent file without the video stream or container quirks, ready for players and editors that want plain audio.
My AVI will not convert — is it broken?
Possibly, or its index is. Files from interrupted downloads and failing drives often decode partially or not at all. Try a different file to isolate the issue.
Does the video quality matter?
Not at all — only the audio stream is decoded. The video track is ignored completely.
