Quality and format notes
Animated GIFs convert to a still image — the opening frame — as a lossless PNG with transparency preserved. Static GIF images convert directly, pixel for pixel.
Need a different frame? Pull it out in an editor first — this conversion always takes the first frame. PNG keeps the transparency the GIF format carries, where JPG would flatten it.
Frequently asked questions
What happens to the animation?
It becomes a single still image of the first frame. Animated output is not produced here.
Is the conversion lossless?
Yes — the decoded frame is stored exactly as PNG stores it, with no further quality loss.
Can I convert many GIFs at once?
