Quality and format notes
JPG's lossy compression often cuts PNG file sizes dramatically, which helps with size-limited uploads and photo storage. The trade-offs: transparency is lost, with transparent areas flattening onto white, and quality loss you control with the quality setting.
Keep PNG for line art, screenshots with small text, or images needing transparency — JPG can blur sharp edges and ring around text. The workspace reports the actual size change per file.
Frequently asked questions
What happened to my transparent background?
JPG has no alpha channel, so transparent areas are flattened onto white. Convert to WebP if you need smaller files that keep transparency.
Which quality setting should I use?
Around 80–90 suits most screenshots and graphics. Lower values shrink files further but blur edges; check small text and sharp borders before settling on a setting.
Why does text in my JPG look fuzzy?
JPG compression is designed for photographs. Hard edges, such as text and UI elements, develop visible artifacts. PNG remains the better choice for screenshots.
