Quality and format notes
Some upload forms, editors and older applications still reject WebP. Converting to JPG produces a universally readable file; because JPG is lossy, choose a quality level appropriate to the image's next use.
Transparency is lost: WebP alpha channels flatten onto white. For images that must stay transparent or pixel-exact, convert to PNG instead. The workspace shows each result's size change.
Frequently asked questions
Why do some services still reject WebP?
WebP is decades newer than JPG, and older content management systems, editors and form validators were never updated to accept it. Converting to JPG is the practical workaround.
Is this conversion lossy?
Yes. JPG re-encodes the image, and any artifacts from the original WebP encoding remain. Higher quality settings reduce the additional loss at the cost of larger files.
Which format should I keep as my master copy?
Keep the WebP when storage allows: it is smaller and preserves transparency. Make JPG copies for services that demand them.
