Quality and format notes
ICO bundles one or more icon sizes into a single file. This conversion decodes the icon and saves a PNG that any editor, browser and document accepts.
An ICO may contain several resolutions; the decoder selects a frame and the workspace shows the resulting dimensions. Transparent backgrounds carry over.
Frequently asked questions
My ICO has multiple sizes — which do I get?
The decoder picks one stored frame and the workspace shows the dimensions of the result. Convert again from a larger master when you need a different size.
Is transparency preserved?
Yes. Icon transparency converts cleanly to PNG — unlike JPG, which would flatten it.
Why convert an ICO at all?
PNG opens in editors, design tools and documents; ICO mostly exists for Windows executables and favicons. It is the way to actually view and reuse an icon.
