Quality and format notes
JPG is the world's default photo format, accepted by virtually every form, editor and device. Convert into JPG from HEIC, PNG or WebP for compatibility — or out of JPG to PNG for lossless editing, keeping in mind that PNG cannot restore transparency the JPG never stored.
JPG discards some image data each time it is encoded; repeatedly re-saving a JPG degrades it. Work from originals whenever quality matters.
Frequently asked questions
JPG or JPEG — what is the difference?
None. They are the same format; JPEG is the original name and JPG the three-letter shorthand kept for older Windows systems. Both files convert identically here.
Does converting to JPG lose quality?
Yes, somewhat — JPG is lossy. The quality setting controls the trade-off; at balanced settings the difference is rarely visible, and the workspace reports each file's size change.
Can JPG store transparency?
No. Transparent areas flatten onto white when converting to JPG. Use PNG or WebP for images that need transparent backgrounds.
