Quality and format notes
PNG suits photos destined for editing, overlays or upload forms that reject HEIC: pixel-exact, lossless and widely accepted, at larger sizes than JPG. The iPhone original stays untouched on your device and each result reports its size change.
PNG photos are much larger than HEIC originals; choose JPG when size matters more than lossless storage. A few HEIC variants may not decode — re-export from the source device if that happens.
Frequently asked questions
Should I convert HEIC to PNG or to JPG?

Do Live Photos convert?
The still image converts normally. The short video clip attached to a Live Photo is a separate file and is not included in the PNG result.
Why is my PNG much bigger than the HEIC?
HEIC is one of the most efficient photo formats available, while PNG stores pixels losslessly. A larger file is the expected cost of lossless output.
