Quality and format notes
WebP usually compresses the same image smaller than JPG at comparable quality. Choose a quality level, convert, and compare the reported size change before replacing your originals.
Conversion cannot add quality — an old, heavily compressed JPG stays that way in WebP. Keep JPG masters when very old software must open the files.
Frequently asked questions
Is WebP really smaller than JPG?
Typically yes, around 20–30% at similar quality. The workspace reports each result's actual size, so judge per image rather than assuming.
Does JPG to WebP keep transparency?
Your JPG has no transparency to keep — the WebP result will be fully opaque. WebP supports alpha only when the source image has it.
Which quality setting suits photos?
75–85 is the usual range for photographs. Check fine text and edges at full size before lowering it further.
